As a passion project outside of client work, I collaborated with fellow designers on PitchBook’s annual gingerbread house competition, where our creative team formed a small group to reinterpret the traditional gingerbread house format. We deconstructed the classic, formal gingerbread house and reimagined it through the lens of The Lighthouse film, drawing inspiration from its moody, textural, and slightly surreal atmosphere. Landan physically took apart and reconstructed the gingerbread structure into a lighthouse form, while I hand-iced sugar cookies to create seagulls and crafted shells, rocks, and stepping stones to build out the surrounding environment. Cora created ice candy to simulate the ocean, and Nat hand dusted texture onto the ground to give the piece an authentic, weathered feel. Together, we leaned into experimentation, material play, and collaboration, resulting in a highly detailed, cohesive, and unexpected final piece that showcased both our creativity and our ability to build something memorable as a team.
